How many tourists visit Victoria each year?

Over 28.99 million tourists visited Victoria in 2024 (year ending March 2024).

Of these, 28.6 million were domestic visitors, showing a 3.8% increase from 27.54 million in 2023.
International visitors totalled 386,000, a decrease of 34.4% from 588,000 international visitors in 2019.
Despite the increase in domestic visitation, international visitors were still 34.4% below the 2019 peak.

Tourists spent $23.26 billion in Victoria in the year ending March 2024.

Domestic visitors contributed $22.72 billion, a 2.1% increase from $22.25 billion spent in 2023.
International visitors spent $537 million in 2024, which was a 7.7% decrease from $582 million in 2019.
Overall, total spending increased by 2.1% compared to 2023, driven mainly by domestic visitor spending growth, while international spending continued to decline.

For the first quarter of 2021 (January-March), Victoria received over 6.1 million domestic overnight visitors.

Visitors were down 9% when compared with the over 6.7 million visitors of the first quarter of 2020.

Overnight visitors spent over $3.6 billion during visits to Victoria for the first quarter of 2021 (January-March).

Spending was down 11.9% when compared with the over $4.1 billion spent during the first quarter of 2020.

Over 24.8 million travellers visited Victoria in the year ending June 2020.¹

This total was made up of 2.1 million international visitors and 22.7 million domestic visitors.
Total visitors saw a 22.7% decrease when compared with the 32.1 million visitors of the previous year.

International visitors spent an estimated total of $6.7 billion during trips to Victoria in the year ending June 2020.

International spending was down 21.9% when compared to the $8.5 billion of the previous year.

Domestic visitors spent an estimated total of $13.3 billion during trips to Victoria in the year ending June 2020.

Domestic spending was down 17% when compared to the $16.2 billion of the previous year.

Combined, visitors to Victoria spent a total of $20 billion in the year ending June 2020.

Total spending was down 19% when compared with the $24.7 billion of the previous year.
