Driving a Campervan around Zurich

  • A CHF 40 motorway vignette is required for vehicles up to 3.5 t and is valid for fourteen months
  • Heavy motorhomes over 3.5 t pay a heavy-vehicle charge at the border and when entering each canton
  • The A1 northern bypass and Gubrist Tunnel have heavy traffic during peak hours; travel before 07:00 or after 09:30
  • Zurich does not have a permanent low-emission zone, but pollution alerts can cause lower speed limits and bans on older engines

What kind of licence do you need to hire a campervan in Switzerland?

You must have a valid Type B (Standard) Driving Licence to rent a motorhome in Switzerland. You must also be at least 21 years old to rent a campervan and have at least one year of driving experience, although some companies prefer drivers to be at least 23 years old.
