Driving a Campervan around Rome

• Rome sits on highways A1 and A24 with the A90 Grande Raccordo Anulare ring road circling the city and connecting all routes.
• The historic centre has a daytime ZTL (restricted traffic zone). Cameras automatically fine any vehicle that enters without a permit.
• A wider Fascia Verde (Green Zone) is a low-emission zone that blocks older vehicles from Monday to Saturday. Newer petrol Euro 3+ and diesel Euro 4+ campervans can generally enter this zone, but check current rules before you drive.
• Most two-axle motorhomes are charged at a higher highway toll rate where the vehicle height at the front axle is over 1.3 metres. Take a ticket when you enter and pay by card or cash when you exit.

• Parking a motorhome is treated as normal parking if you do not occupy extra space outside the vehicle (Italian Highway Code, Article 185), but camping rules are set locally. Use campsites or official Aree di Sosta (motorhome service areas) instead.
• Park and Ride car parks at metro stations cost around €2–3 per day and keep your campervan outside the busy city centre.
