Driving a Campervan around Lisbon

  • Lisbon connects to motorway A1 north to Porto, A2 south to the Algarve and A12 across the Vasco da Gama bridge. The 25 de Abril bridge on the A2 has heavy traffic in the morning and evening, so check traffic conditions before crossing.
  • A low-emission zone called ZER covers the inner city. On weekdays (07:00–21:00), Zone 1 generally requires Euro 3 (2000+) and Zone 2 Euro 2 (1996+) standards, with some exemptions/authorisations (including resident dístico cases).
  • Motorway tolls place most campervans in Class 2 when the first-axle height is more than 1.10 metres. Pay with Via Verde electronic system or at card and cash lanes.
  • Outside protected/coastal planning areas and in the absence of municipal rules, overnight parking (pernoita) in an IMT-approved motorhome is limited to 48 hours in the same municipality. Use official ASA stops or campsites to avoid fines.
  • Park-and-Ride sites at Oriente, Sete Rios and several metro stations allow you to park your van and take public transport into the city centre for a few euros.
