• Driving at night in rural areas can be dangerous due to animals and pedestrians on roads with poor lighting
• Camping outside designated sites is prohibited. Officials may issue fines in national parks or coastal reserves
• Cross-border trips to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho or Eswatini require a written letter of permission from the rental company and a border permit that you buy at the border crossing
• Service areas on the N1 and N3 highways have parking spaces for large vehicles, fresh water taps and 24-hour security
