Things to Experience in Perth:
You’ll need a full, non-restricted Class C (car) license to rent a campervan or motorhome in Broome. That means learners and provisional license holders need not apply. Most Broome rental companies won’t do business with drivers under 21. Drivers under 25 can hire a camper but must pay an additional young driver surcharge. Overseas hirers will need an English translation of their home-country license or an International Driver’s Permit (IDP).
Not many companies in Australia allow customers to pick up and/or drop off a rental after hours.
Spaceships have an easy after-hours pickup and dropoff service.
The following companies also allow after-hours pickup or drop-off, but fees and additional terms may apply: Camperman, Mighty Campers, Awesome, Driveabout and Bargain Campers.
Note that this service may not be available in all cities.
No, most companies will only allow their vehicles to be driven on sealed bitumen roads.
An exception is Bargain Campers, which allows their vehicles to be driven on unsealed (gravel) roads in Tasmania, as long as these roads are properly formed.
Rental companies may make an exception for well-maintained access roads to a recognized campsite. However, the distance allowed on these roads may vary (between 500 and 12 km). Check the rental agreement for details regarding the exact allowed distance.
Different rules may apply to 4WD campers.
Most rental companies have both automatic and manual vehicles available.
Our comparison tool allows you to filter by transmission type to help you find your preferred option.
Note that not all makes and models will be available in both automatic and manual transmission types.
Yes, it’s standard for most companies to allow an additional driver. This driver and any others must be named on the rental agreement, and there may be a nominal fee.
Additional drivers must also hold an appropriate driver’s licence and must meet driver age requirements.
Note: policies vary from supplier to supplier. Always check the T&Cs for your rental.
